Ryan Walker Longwell was born on August 16, 1974 in Seattle, Washington. He grew up in Seattle where he would watch the Seahawks punter and kicker as a child. He taught himself how to kick just from replaying film of kickers and he went on to star for the University of California, Berkeley. He was a placekicker and punter earning all PAC-10 conference honors. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in English, he started his career in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, but he never played in a game for them. He signed with the Green Bay Packers in 1997 and played for them until 2005, going to one super bowl. He was the all time leading scorer for the Packers with a total of 1054 points. He then signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2006 and played for them until 2011. He also played briefly for the Seattle Seahawks during the 2012 playoffs and retired following the 2012 season. Longwell is the 5th most accurate placekicker in NFL history.
