Unlike the regular classes that Moreau Catholic has to offer, Sports and Society stands out in its own special way. It offers a view into sports sociology and fortunately it also all ties into kinesiology. Created by one of our beloved ex-teachers, Don Morneau, sports and society was established in 1981 and it was the first class of its kind. Thirty two years later, the class still remains strong and it is filled with many student athletes or just curious students who choose to learn about the role of sport in society and vice versa. Fortunately for the Moreau community, because of this class and its uniqueness, several guest speakers have come through this class and each offer a different aspect of sport or society and how each subject correlates with the other.

Its original intention of keeping in contact with sport is why Mr. Morneau decided to construct this type of class and after taking three years to be approved by the UC administrations, the class was final and gave students the reassurance that this class would also meet the UC requirements. This class is also very special because it is the first class in the United States to offer sports sociology on the high school level, rather than being on a collegiate level and still, even in college only a select few have a class like this.
