Eric Wright played for the 49ers as a cornerback from the University of Missouri and was an All-Big Eight defensive back in 1979 and 1980. He shares the Missouri record for the most pass interceptions in a game (three vs. San Diego State in 1979). He was a 2nd round pick from the 1981 NFL Draft. He played for 9 years (1981-1990) and was part of the 1981, 84, 88, and 89 49ers championship team. He was a 2 time pro bowler and made keys plays throughout his niner career. His most well known play for the niners was during the NFC Championship game on January 10, 1982 against the Dallas Cowboys. On the Cowboys' last possession, after Dwight Clark had made the famous “The Catch” Wright made a touchdown-saving tackle on Cowboy’s wide receiver Drew Pearson to secure the 49er win and lead them to their first Super Bowl. Eric Wright was considered to have been one of the best cornerbacks in the league while playing in the NFL and is still is one of the best the niners have ever had to play.
