Vilche was a three-sport athlete at Chabot College, playing softball, basketball, and volleyball. She was a great player in all 3, but stood out in softball, and earned a spot on the on national team in 1982 and a part of the Fastpitch “A” national championship. She attended Fresno State on a softball scholarship. During her two year stint with Fresno State, her team finished as a runner-up in the NCAA Division 1 College World Series, stepping into the National spotlight. In 1985, she was a part of a team that earned a gold medal at the 1985 Sports Festival, where she pitched 57 scoreless innings. In 1986, she earned MVP honors in the Canadian World Cup and a silver medal at the Japan World Cup. After her time playing softball had ended, she took up coaching. She found it easy to recruit highly-talented softball players to play at Chabot, because of her Collegiate success. She led her teams to winning 3 Coast Conference Championships, with the 1995 team going 45-6, finishing as the number 1 Junior college in northern california, and number 4 in the state. She has been coaching at Chabot for over 15 years now.
